Today's breeds of Heavy Horses are the product of generations of careful breeding, which has developed these animals into the horses that we all know today. The protection of the future of these animals rest with the individual Breed Societies, each of which issue a standard against which an individual horses can be measured. The Breed Societies also keep a register of pure and part breed horses which can be used to trace the animals bloodlines back for many generations.
